The 'battle cry of Immortal Being'.
Akali Nihang Singh Khalsa battle cry 'Akal', to which all other Singhs respond: 'Sat Siri Akal', meaning 'True eternal is Immortal Being'.
The favourite cry of the Akali Nihang Singhs on the battle field. It was shouted by all Sikh warriors on entering the battle and during battle to psyche themselves up and keep up momentum of fight. On death the last word a Sikh warrior was expected to utter aloud with his last breadth was 'Akal'. On failing to utter Akal, an Akali Nihang warrior could, according to ancient 'Buddha Dal' oral tradition, loose his place in 'Sach Khand' - the eternal abode of 'Nirankar' (Formless Immortal Being).
