Heavy Hindu Sikh war bracelets worn by Akali Nihangs.
They are employed in close quarter Sanatan Hindu Sikh Shastar Vidiya (both armed and unarmed combat). Various types of 'Kara' exist - eg, 'Jaamdhar' (spiked), 'Chobdar' (single spike)
At present, due to the pacifist 'Nirmala' influence of the British Raj era, most Sikhs wear thin 'Kara' as a 'religious symbol' of their faith.
