The Akali Nihang Baba Darbara Singh Sanatan Suraj Bansia Shastar Vidiya Shiv Akhara is a traditional Indian combat arts school teaching a tried and tested ancient battle art. The historical and cultural background to each technique, tactic and stratagem is provided throughout instruction in order to contextualise them. In this manner, a student can better appreciate and understand of what is being taught.
Martial instruction falls into two main categories:
- 'Sava Rakhsha' (traditional self-defence)
- 'Yudh Vidiya' (traditional Indian battlefield arts)
'Yudh Vidiya' covers 'sava rakhsha' as well as traditional 'greh' (home) and 'gao' (village) defence.
